Advice for Authors

Advanced Queries

Authors are invited to write to the editor with questions about developing articles, including questions about potential topics, format, and development of ideas. Queries should be sent via email with “Query about an article for JNHEE” (or words to that effect) in the subject line. To receive a response, it is necessary that any spam filter you use be set to allow email messages from the editor.

Online Submission

All manuscripts should be submitted in electronic format to the editor as an attachment to an email message. The email message serves as a cover letter for submission, and it should indicate author information, manuscript title, and the type of manuscript being submitted (e.g., description of curriculum, analysis/synthesis of ideas, contribution to one of the journal’s special series).

The submission should originate from the email address of the corresponding author. Upon submission, an acknowledgement of receipt will be sent by way of an email reply. If you do not receive an acknowledgement of receipt within three days, we encourage you to make a follow-up inquiry.

It is important that any spam filter you operate on your email application be set to allow email messages from the editor.

Thus, the online submission process involves two steps:

  • Send an email cover letter to the editor from the email address of the corresponding author; the cover letter must indicate the author information, manuscript title, and the type of manuscript being submitted.
  • Include the complete and correctly formatted manuscript as an attachment to the email cover letter. Manuscripts should be in .doc or .rtf format only.  Figures, if any, should be sent as separate .jpg files, labeled with the figure number.

Submission guidelines

All manuscripts must follow the requested guidelines, described by the Example Manuscript, because each author is expected to minimize the work associated with preparing the manuscript for eventual publication.  Thus, manuscripts that do not conform to these guidelines may not be reviewed for publication.
